Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Deluxe Animated Series Edition
Star

Summary

Hmm…Deluxe Animated Series Edition features a unique cartoon-inspired paint scheme that distinguishes it from the darker, more realistic previous versions. New head sculpts, while varied in quality, aim to capture the nostalgic essence of the 80s series, resulting in mixed reactions from collectors. The set includes an extensive array of accessories, but notable omissions, such as a lack of soft goods and fewer weapon effects, have raised concerns about its overall value compared to earlier releases.

Pros!

  • Nostalgic design captures the essence of the classic animated series.
  • New head sculpts feature vibrant colors and varying expressions, enhancing character representation.
  • Includes an extensive range of accessories, such as multiple weapons and ninja gear, enhancing playability.
  • Superior articulation allows for dynamic poses, with praise for the flexibility of the nunchucks due to internal wiring.
  • High-quality soft goods for accessories like utility belts add realism.
  • Improved slashing effect pieces for swords provide better execution compared to previous versions.

Cons!

  • QC issues with paint applications, including bleeding, particularly on weapons and faces.
  • Missing key accessories from previous sets, such as multiple throwing star effects and soft goods.
  • Donatello’s head sculpts have been criticized for being less appealing compared to other Turtles.
  • Lack of extra spinning nunchaku for Michelangelo limits display options.
  • Some accessories, like the eight shuriken and too many secondary weapons, seem unnecessary.
  • The belts tend to slide down during posing, causing frustration.
